How it works

1. Choose your button design

Open Settings Preferred Source and select your preferred design. You can use the official Google button or choose from 40+ unique custom styles. A live preview (Desktop / Mobile) lets you see the button before displaying it on your website.

2. Customize your button

Personalize the button to fit your website:

Button name/text — For example, “Add as preferred on Google”
Site name — Add your website or publication name
Supporting text — Optionally add a short explanation above or below the button (always, on hover, or info icon)

For custom designs, you can also adjust colors, borders, backgrounds, font size, corner radius, Google icon visibility, and other design settings. With Mobile and desktop, you can set different copy and supporting-text triggers for each device.

3. Choose where it appears

Display the button automatically:

At the top of an article
In the middle of an article (after a chosen paragraph)
At the end of an article
Below the post meta
Above or below the table of contents
In the sidebar (below Share this article, or at the end)
Below the featured image or after the first heading
Above comments
As a floating button that stays visible while scrolling

You can enable more than one placement at the same time. TOC, sidebar, and post-meta spots are found automatically — no CSS selector required.

4. Control who sees it

Choose where automatic placement should be enabled, including posts, pages, homepage/blog, categories, tags, search results, author pages, archives, and supported custom content types.

You can also control visibility by device and exclude specific posts, pages, or categories. For complete manual control, use the shortcode, block, or widget.

5. Save and publish

Save your settings and the Preferred Source button is ready to appear according to your selected display rules. When readers click the button, they can proceed to Google and select your website as a Preferred Source.

This plugin can load Google’s Subscribe with Google publisher script when you enable the official interactive Google button on the Design tab.

The script is loaded from https://news.google.com/swg/js/v1/publisher.js on pages where that button is shown. It renders Google’s official Preferred Sources button in the visitor’s browser. The plugin does not send your WordPress site data to Google through this script; Google’s script may collect usage data according to Google’s policies when it runs in the visitor’s browser.

Custom button styles link to https://www.google.com/preferences/source (or your configured domain) so visitors can open Google’s Preferred Sources page.
