ByTheWeb GEO is a free WordPress plugin built to help search engines and AI systems better understand, reference, and discover your website.

ByTheWeb GEO is a Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and Artificial Intelligence Optimization (AIO) plugin for WordPress. As search evolves from traditional links to AI-driven answers (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews), your website needs to adapt.

Features

AI Optimization (GEO)

• AI Readiness Score (GEO): Calculates a score from 0 to 100 based on AI Summary, FAQ Schema, Short Answer, Meta Description availability, and entity/schema signals. Posts also receive a content freshness score based on updates within the last 180 days.
• Short Answer (The Bottom Line): Add a concise direct answer that can be included as the Schema.org abstract property and reused in LLM files, shortcodes, and Elementor widgets.
• AI Summary (Key Facts): A field to summarize key facts, injected as an ai-summary meta tag.
• FAQ Builder: Create post, page, and taxonomy FAQs that generate structured FAQPage data.

LLMs.txt & LLMs-full.txt Generator

Prepare your site for Large Language Models using modern AI discovery files:
* Automatically generate an llms.txt file at the root of your site.
* Optionally generate an llms-full.txt file with a fuller Markdown version of your public, indexable content.
* Add a custom “Introduction” directly addressing AI bots and large language models.
* Control exactly which post types and taxonomies are included.
* Exclude individual posts, pages, or taxonomy terms from both LLM files without changing their search engine indexing or sitemap.xml eligibility.
* Automatically respects standalone Index/Noindex settings or the active Yoast SEO / Rank Math indexability rules.
* Detects when Yoast SEO or Rank Math is also configured to generate llms.txt and displays a compatibility warning to help avoid competing generators.
* llms.txt compiles Short Answers, AI Summaries, fallback excerpts, taxonomy descriptions, and corresponding links in Markdown format.

Robots.txt AI Policy Manager

Manage AI crawler access from inside WordPress without editing server files:
* Automatically adds your ByTheWeb GEO sitemap.xml URL to the virtual robots.txt output when no supported external SEO plugin is managing it.
* Keep all bots allowed by default, with clear per-bot blocking controls.
* Selectively block major AI and search crawlers such as GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended, Bingbot, Amazonbot, and Meta AI fetchers.
* Avoid conflicts with Yoast SEO and Rank Math by disabling overlapping robots.txt management when either plugin is active.
* Detects physical robots.txt files and warns when server-level, cache, security, or firewall rules may affect the final robots.txt output.

Security & Access Control

Security is our top priority. ByTheWeb GEO strictly follows WordPress capability standards to ensure your site configurations and AI integrations are safe from unauthorized usage. Subscribers, store customers, or guests cannot access any dashboard or trigger optimization actions.

• GEO Dashboard & Site-wide Settings: Users with the edit_others_posts capability (Administrators and Editors) have full access to the main GEO Dashboard, general configuration settings, and SEO templates.
• Post-Level Optimization & AI Fixes: Users with the edit_posts capability (Administrators, Editors, Authors, and Contributors) can view optimization scores within their post editor and utilize the AI Auto-Fix tools for their respective posts.
• Category & Taxonomy Optimization: Users with the manage_categories capability (Administrators and Editors) can manage GEO/SEO metadata and FAQ schemas for categories, tags, and custom taxonomies.
• Security Protection: State-changing admin actions and AJAX endpoints use WordPress nonce verification and appropriate capability checks (current_user_can) to protect against unauthorized requests and Cross-Site Request Forgery (CSRF). Read-only admin filters are sanitized and restricted to supported values.

External services

ByTheWeb GEO can connect to external services when specific features are used. The core GEO, SEO, Schema, Sitemap, robots.txt, breadcrumbs, and LLMs.txt features work locally and do not require these external services.

ByTheWeb Cloud AI Service

When the ByTheWeb AI integration is connected and an authorized user selects and confirms an AI generation action, the plugin sends the relevant post or page data to the ByTheWeb Cloud API at bytheweb.cloud, where it may be processed by the applicable external AI provider to perform the requested generation.

This service is used only when the user actively requests AI-generated content, such as an AI Summary, Short Answer, FAQ Schema, SEO Title, or Meta Description.

Data sent may include:

• Up to 6,000 characters of the selected post’s cleaned text content.
• The fields the user requested the AI to generate.
• The target keyword or entity entered by the user.
• Existing values and questions needed to complete the requested generation.
• The WordPress site language.
• The connected API key and site domain for authentication.

The plugin does not send the API key as part of the post content. It is transmitted securely in the request headers for authentication.

OpenStreetMap Nominatim

The Entity & Schema business location settings include an optional “Fetch from Address” button.

When an administrator clicks this button, the physical address entered in the settings is sent directly from the browser to the OpenStreetMap Nominatim search service. The returned latitude and longitude coordinates are inserted into the selected business location settings.

No address is sent to OpenStreetMap unless the administrator actively clicks the button.

Google Maps

The Entity & Schema business location settings can display a Google Maps preview based on the latitude and longitude stored for the selected location.

When the map preview is displayed, the browser connects directly to Google Maps and sends the coordinates required to display the selected location. Google may also receive standard browser and network information as part of loading the embedded map.

Note: An API key is required only for the optional ByTheWeb Cloud AI features. The plugin’s local GEO, SEO, Schema, Sitemap, robots.txt, breadcrumbs, and LLMs.txt features remain available without connecting to the AI service.
